A New Downtown Vision

The Coachella Station Area Plan guides reinvestment in the city’s historic downtown and surrounding neighborhoods around a future passenger rail station. Developed through community workshops, surveys, and pop-ups, the plan connects new housing and mixed-use development with improvements to streets, public spaces, and transit access. As Sargent Town Planning’s project lead within an HDR-led team, I coordinated with engineers, economists, transit agencies, and City staff to translate community priorities into a downtown mobility framework, development scenarios, and building design standards. My work included master planning 220 acres of adjacent farmland, exploring how growth around the station could extend and complement the existing downtown.
