Car-Free Town Expansion

SITE: 4.8 acres in Guanacaste, Costa Rica

ROLE: Lead Urban Design Consultant

CLIENT: Las Catalinas Holding Company

The Las Catalinas Holding Company hired me as an urban design consultant for a neighborhood within a growing walkable beach town. This new area needed a mixed-use market square, a residential quarter, and mixed-use beach frontage. I built upon previous work by local and international team members to deliver a master plan, form-based regulating plan, and public realm design. I also tested the plan through schematic architectural design to ensure that solutions were feasible given the compact development pattern and mountainous topography. This project has been implemented locally; construction is complete.
